It is interesting that finally Renault has decided to go on sale with an offroad sort of a variant, especially by promoting it with Russian made MT tires.. Having become an icon in its category, the All-new Renault Duster reveals itself in a new light. While maintaining its legendary off-road ability, it has an increasingly assertive and robust look with a variety of exterior design options and a new metallic Atacama Orange colour.
.
The All-new Renault Duster features a more assertive, modernized design: sculpted surfaces, new grille and new LED daytime running lights. Its profile with a high beltline reinforces the impression of robustness and its new, more sloping windscreen gives a more dynamic look and improved visibility.
The Dacia Duster Trails & Technical Group on Facebook decided to test out the tires that will be available on the new Renault Duster model available for the Russian market.
Finally, the All-new Renault Duster reinforces its SUV character with its embossed wheel arches underlined by additional extenders and side mouldings at the fender level.
In its eight years of existence on the Russian market, the Renault Duster has already won over more than 440,000 fans thanks to its qualities as an adventurer perfectly adapted to the weather and road conditions. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the All-new Renault Duster intends to continue this saga.
The video itself is a good example for anyone to understand the differences between an MT tire and an AT (no matter the snowflakes). Please also remember than on asphalt the situation is reversed and the AT wins especially in emergency/difficult scenarios.
The new generation of Dacia Sandero Stepway came into production in a moment when all the car industry in struggling. Wtih the Covid-19 pandemic or the new EU regulations, all the carmakers had to make adjustments to the new models in order to be competitive and cut the costs.
The same story applies in the Renault Group as well. In order to keep the car’s production costs low, they moved the Sandero production all the way in Tanger and Casablanca (Maroc). The Stepway will be made in Arges, alongside the Duster.
The biggest changes were made in the interior, which looks like it borrowed a little bit of this, a little bit of that, from the other Renault Group models:
the textile fabric on the dash board from the Renault Clio;
the climate controls from the Duster;
the gearbox also from the Duster;
the steering wheel from all the Dacia models after 2018.
On the outside you can see that the daylights resemble the Lamborghini signature but are in perfect harmony with the design of the car.
Unfortunately, like all the car companies (except Tesla), the Renault Group is also behind in the reace of reducing the CO2 emissions acros its entire line of vehicles.
For that reason and because most of the European cities have already banned some of the older diesel engines from entering some areas, Dacia Sandero and Logan will not have the dCi engine under its hood.
And because the 1.3 TCe engine has over 100 g/km CO2 emissions, they’ve decided to let go of this engine as well. So the only one left was the TCe 90, that has 999 cubic cm, 90 HP and 160 Nm. This engine can be equpied with LPG straight from the factory so if you are interested in buying the new Sandero Stepway you will have 2 engine options, that it’s just one: the TCe 90.
In the safety department, the new Dacia Sandero Stepway is equiped with emergency brake system, besides the rest of the systems included on the older model.
In Romania there are 2 trim levels (Essential and Comfort), each one with the TCe 90 or the ECO-G 100 (LPG version), with the option to get a CVT automatic gearbox on the TCe 90 engine.
Here is a walkaround of the model, in the Comfort trim level, with a price of around 13.100 EUR:
Sunday morning is for adventures with my Duster. So my friend/cameraman Alex and I woke up in the morning and headed towards Cununschi, a small beautiful village that belongs to Brodina, in Suceava.
Cununschi is like most of the small villages in Brodina – gatherings of houses on top of the hills. Here, a neighbour can stay up to one, two miles away from you.
We started our climb in the video at the base of the hill, in the village Cununa and made our way up thru the forest. The first Duster had Riken Snow SUV winter tires on street air pressure (2.3 bar). My Duster was running on Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S at around 1.8 bar.
The snow was very fresh with a high volume of water in it. As soon as one wheel started to spin and loose grip, a layer of ice was done in that spot. That made my climb harder than the first Duster and very hard on the last hill.
On the last hill we had to use some branches and go full speed up in order to pass over it. And here is our destination, an amazing quiet location on top of the Bucovina’s mountains.
Of course, on the way down we used another trail, even steeper than the one used for the climb, but we were in a hurry and didn’t film anything. Even if the grip on the ATs was very low, we managed to go down without any problems.
After a long wait, the first snow has fallen over the beautiful landscapes of Bucovina, so my friends and me went on a short offroad drive.
The trail we went on starts near Nisipitu village, on the cimented road to Lupcina. At some point we turned right on Hrabusna forest road and headed to the small village of Salas, with the intention of passing by the Salas Monastery.
Because we had some problems with my drone, we’ve lost alot of time and by the time we got to the middle of our planned journey, night started to settle in…
Unfortunately, my drone landed in a water hole and I couldn’t use it anymore, at least for that offroad drive. Instead, we captured some amazing images with one of our phones (Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra)
Because of that, there wasn’t anything to do except to head back but on a shorter trail than the original one. Here are some images from our way back.
Next time we’re heading into these lands, my drone will be up and running, with an extra battery for more amazing sky shots. Enjoy the video!
