  • Manual

The autowit SuperCap 2 Portable Jump Starter is an ultra-compact charger for your car or truck. It measures only 10.43 inches long, 4.52 inches wide, and 1.77 inches thick. You can stow it in your glove box, in a bed box, or even alongside your jack. At only 2.34 pounds, it’s also fairly lightweight, so you don’t have to struggle with it. This compact design is a major benefit, and makes the SuperCap 2 stand out from the competition. Most car jump starters are fairly bulky, which makes them a pain to use.

All of this is possible because the SuperCap 2 utilizes a capacitor system instead of an internal battery. This capacitor is exceptionally lightweight, compared to the several pounds that a comparable battery would weigh. In addition, capacitors are safer than batteries. Whereas batteries can swell, crack, or explode due to heat, capacitors will be just fine. In other words, you don’t have to worry about leaving your car parked in the sun in summertime. Your capacitor isn’t going to get damaged because it overheated.

The entire kit comes covered by autowit’s 1-year warranty. In general, electronics will either fail early on or not at all, so this should be more than good enough. If your capacitor is still working after a year, chances are that it will last for a decade or more.

How it’s Used

So, how does a capacitor charger work differently than a battery-powered charger? To understand, it helps if you first understand how electricity works. Instead of electricity flowing through a wire, imagine water flowing through a pipe. The water pressure would be analogous to voltage. The volume of water would be analogous to amperage (amps). The combination of those two factors, the total power, would be analogous to watts. To start a car engine, you don’t need terribly high voltage. 12 volts is more than enough, in theory. But you do need a lot of amps.

There are three different ways to gather the power you need. The first is to simply use the contacts on your car’s battery. This is usually the easiest method, since you’re going under the hood anyway, and it takes about 3 minutes. Alternatively, you can draw power from your car’s cigarette lighter, which takes about five minutes. If your battery is completely dead, you’re still not out of options. You can use a USB power bank, or charge the capacitor from the battery of another car. This shouldn’t often be necessary. But it’s good to know that there’s a backup option if your battery is totally drained.

Regardless of how you power up the capacitor, a buzzer will sound when your capacitor is fully charged. At that point, you’re ready to connect to your car’s battery. Press the power button, and a 10-minute countdown will start. This gives you enough time to get around to the front of your car and start your engine.

Jump Starting Performance

The SuperCap 2 has a maximum peak current of 800 amps. This is sufficient to start virtually any vehicle on the road. In gas cars and trucks, it can start up to a 7.0-liter engine, which is enough for any consumer vehicle. In diesel vehicles, you can start a motor of up to 4 liters. This won’t be enough for the biggest trucks, but it’s more than enough for anything else. As for motorcycles, boats, tractors, and scooters, you’ll have way more juice than you need.

The main limitation you’re going to deal with is the way the SuperCap 2 works. Because it releases a small amount of power in a high-amperage current, you don’t have long to start your engine. In all, you’ll have about a four or five second window, depending on how well the capacitor is changed. This means you have to follow the instructions carefully, and turn your key when the buzzer sounds. As long as you do that, you’ll be just fine. But if you’re not able to turn the key for some reason, you have to recharge the SuperCap.

Top 7 Cheapest Electric Cars in the World

Top 7 Cheapest Electric Cars in the World

About 10 years ago electric cars looked like something weird had a short range and often became a real headache themselves for early owners.

Muncitorii francezi de la Renault sunt nemulţumiţi că modelul Dacia Spring este produs în China | Economica.net

Nowadays electric vehicles have become the natural part of the usual road traffic and often can offer better overall performance than gasoline-powered cars. Moreover electric vehicles have become much more affordable thanks to the state and private incentives as well as more advanced technologies also the average driving range began to grow almost in an explosive way which made owning an electric vehicle even more efficient.

Today we will talk about the most affordable electric vehicles that might finally create an opportunity to feel the thrills of an electric drive:

1. Kandi K27

Kandi K27 – Range: 100 mi / 161 km

If you still think that electric cars are too expensive even with all the available state incentives, then the new K27 from a chinese electric car manufacturer KANDI comes to the market to change your vision. Its main advantage is the price which automatically makes the model the most affordable electric car. However such a low price also implies compromises in terms of technical equipment.

This obviously modest model can offer up to 100 miles of range provided by a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 17.7 kilowatt hour the power delivered by a 45 kilowatts electric motor is enough to accelerate the vehicle to a top speed of 63 MPH (105 KM/H).The company offers a special discount for the first 1000 pre-orders creating a possibility to get the vehicle for less than 10.000 dollars including the federal incentives. The price also includes a four-year warranty.

2. Renault City KZ-E

Renault City KZ-E – Range: 168 mi / 270 km

For many years, Renault has remained one of the leaders in electrifying the automotive industry introducing newest technologies through the whole model lineup starting from strange two-seater models to practical crossovers.

The production version of the Renault City KZE has been revealed in China where the french manufacturer wants to increase its market share offering an affordable electric crossover which would be able to compete with local brands. The 26.8 kilowatt-hour battery pack can be quickly charged above the chinese GBE T standard and it should be enough for a range of 168 miles.

The KZE can develop a top speed of 65 miles per hour. In China it’s available in three versions with a starting price of about 8700 dollars including all incentives.

3. Dacia Spring

Dacia Spring – Range: 140 mi / 225 km

At the same time Renault has already announced the european version of the KZE. It will be marketed next year as Dacia Spring, becoming the most affordable full-fledged EV in Europe. Here are some specs: full electric, 33 kW (equivalent to 44 hp) all-electric engine is paired with a 26.8 kWh battery with 225 km (140 miles) WLTP and 295 km (183 miles) in WLTP City cycle with 125 Nm of immediate torque. Important: DC fast charging from 0% to 80% takes 50 minutes.

The first 100% electric car of the Dacia brand will be sold at a price of 15,000-17,000 euros without the goverment incentives.

4. Citroen Ami

Citroen Ami – Range: 43 mi / 70 km

Another french company, Citroen is following Renault in its efforts to expand the lineup with a bunch of affordable and compact EVs. The latest electric model called AMI was developed for both private buyers and the growing car sharing industry and you don’t even need a driving license to grab its steering wheel. It looks more like a light quadricycle and has the top speed limited to about 28 miles per hour which is comparable with the specs of the speed pedal assist e-bikes. Citroen AMI is obviously not that powerful vehicle to compete with most electric cars on the road but instead it could offer a reliable solution for your everyday transportation needs.

It comes with a 6 kilowatts electric motor and a 5.5 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack stuffed under the floor. This is enough for up to 43 miles of driving range. Charging time is about 3 hours when using a standard 220 volt socket, available in every european household. You can purchase Citroen AMI for about 7000 dollars, otherwise there is a possibility to reserve a car for approximately 30 cents a minute via app-based car sharing programs in some locations across Europe.

5. Squad EV

Squad EV – Range: 62 mi battery + 18 mi (Daily Solar)

This is the dutch startup Squad Mobility with its unique project dubbed squad which stands for Solar Quad. The name implies that the model is much closer to a quadricycle than a classic car. What sets it apart from vehicles in today’s list is a roof-mounted array of solar panels which in a sunny country can generate electricity for about 6500 miles per year.

The squad’s top speed is limited to 28 miles per hour but the variant of 50 miles per hour will also be available. The company also offers removable side covers. The Squad is planned to go on sale with a retail price of 6300 dollars which makes it quite attractive to a large group of prospects.

6. Baojun E200

Baojun E200 – Range: 130 mi / 210 km

China dominates worldwide electric vehicle sales with around 1.2 million units sold in 2019. Thanks to the government incentives, the chinese market not only has become attractive for local companies but also gives opportunities for global automakers to create competition with their electric cars.

The Baojun 200 is an affordable small EV available for the chinese indian and indonesian markets. It’s produced by a china-based joint venture between General Motors and two local companies SAIC and Wuling. This model followed the successful E100 and with 60 000 units sold together in 2019 they were the number five best-selling models in the world according to General Motors.

The new E200 has a constant speed range of up to 167 miles in normal driving conditions. The range of 110 miles to 130 miles seems much more realistic. The vehicle features more than 200 upgrades compared to the first Baojun E-series model and is equipped with a battery that has increased density allowing it to store more energy with the same volume. What makes the Baojun E200 so attractive is the price that starts from 7 700 dollars including all available incentives from the chinese government.

7. Wuling Mini EV

Wuling Mini EV – Range: up to 106 mi / 170 km

Another brainchild of the GM SAIC joint venture aims to conquer the niche of extremely affordable electric cars. Unlike the Baojun E200, the main trump cards of the Wuling Mini EV are the low selling price and the second row of seats in the four-seater configuration. Wuling lacks a trunk but if you fold the one-piece backrest of the rear sofa you can get a compartment with a capacity of 0.74 cubic meters. In addition, there are 12 places for different small items in the cabin.

The Mini EV is powered by a small 20 kilowatts electric motor and a 13.8 hour battery pack offering a range of 75 to 106 miles. The small electric car that has already received more than 50 000 orders is priced at just 4100 dollars.

Renault Group Stops Production of Logan MCV

Only three more models will be produced in Romania, compared to five at the beginning of the year

Noul Dacia Logan MCV: deschidere verticală a hayon-ului, design modernizat - AutoMarket

The Dacia range is to be heavily restructured. Logan MCV is the first model to be eliminated with the next generation of the Logan and Sandero ranges, and Dokker will be the next, while the French have already announced that only Sandero Stepway will be produced in Mioveni, while Sandero will be produced entirely in Morocco.

“The latest Logan MCV models will be produced next week. Regarding the renewal of this model, we are already working on intelligent development solutions, which will make the next generation of this type of vehicle a different one from the previous one “, said the officials of the Communication Department of the Renault Romania Group. Thus, from the range of five models that were assembled in Mioveni at the beginning of the year, the plant will be left with only three – Duster, which represents 75% of production, Logan and Sandero Stepway.

According to the French press, the Renault Group is preparing a seven-seater crossover to replace Lodgy and Logan MCV after the Scenic and Espace models, which from minivans have been transformed into crossovers with an SUV look. The French press also announces that Dokker will also be eliminated from the Dacia range, and the next generation will be launched under the Renault brand and the name Kangoo Express, according to L’Argus.

Duster Dashcam – Lanmodo Vast Night Vision Review

Driving at night can be dangerous. Even if you’re a skilled and alert driver, that might not help you much when driving with poor visibility. What happens when a thick fog blankets the road, or when it’s too dark to see more than a couple of feet ahead of you? When you’re not persistently driving in safe conditions, it can make a lot of sense to get a little help.

Lanmodo Vast 1080P Automotive Night Vision System

The Lanmodo Vast Automotive Night Vision System is similar to having a pair of lights on your vehicle. The general idea is to help improve your ability to see the road. But in a variety of circumstances, the Vast is actually better than some simple high beams. Because as a night vision system, this device is somewhat like giving the driver super-powers.

Lanmodo Vast 1080p Full Color Night Vision System Review

Viewing Display

If you’re not familiar, IPS panels are great for two things. The first thing is providing more true to life color than duller, cheaper TN panels. The second thing is providing far better viewing angles than TN panels. In fact, the viewing angle is pretty close to 180-degrees. You can basically look at this thing sideways and still end up with a good view of what’s happening.

Having night vision in your car has tons of advantages. For driving safely at night, the camera might have a better view of the road than your unaided eyes. How about when it’s raining and your vision may be blurred by excessive downpour? The camera can cut through that, letting you see clearly. It works just as well in foggy conditions.

The Lanmodo Vast includes a cigarette lighter adapter, OBD adapter, three-in-one input cable, non-slip mat, suction cup, and one hand sized screw driver. The input cable can accommodate NVS connection wires, rear view signal inputs, and a DV 12V power input. That should be basically everything that the average person needs to get started using the Lanmodo Vast.

And if you need alternatives for powering the unit, you can pick up a 24V to 12V voltage converter. But that converter/adapter is not included.

lanmodo vast night

Who Should Choose Lanmodo Vast 1080P Automotive Night Vision System?

There are several reasons why this system might make sense. One is that it’s very easy to install. You can add and remove the screen as needed, especially if you go with the more straightforward matt-style installation method. That makes the Lanmodo Vast’s installation approachable for nearly anyone.

Another reason is safety. When you’re not driving through a well-lit area, the lights on your vehicle alone are not always going to give you a clear view of the road. The Lanmodo Vast can fix that. In the distant future, even if self-driving vehicles start to become popular, it’s possible that these kind of devices will become quite standard.

Mercedes-Benz SUVs Recalled For Power Steering Isuess

Mercedes-Benz SUVs Recalled For Power Steering Isuess

Mercedes-Benz is recalling 12,799 units of the GLE and the GLS equipped with a backlit star on the grille. It noticed a problem with one of the wiring loom’s grounds can deactivate key functions, like the power steering.

Sold as a $500 option, the illuminated three-pointed star is marketed as a way to make the GLE and the GLS more distinctive at night, but it can apparently do a lot more. Mercedes explained the logo’s electrical ground might not be installed properly, which in theory would simply make it not light up, but several other systems share the same connection, including the power steering control unit, the driver-side headlight, and the wiper motor. Without a clean and tight ground, none of these features work, so the risk of an accident increases.

According a bulletin published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall campaign includes 9,642 examples of the 2020 GLE and 3,157 units of the 2020 GLS. 350, 450, and 580 models are affected. All were built in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, between December 8, 2018, and February 6, 2020. Mercedes explained it began looking into the defect in December 2019, and it’s not aware of any injuries or accidents linked to it. It noted the power steering, wiper, or light failures are accompanied by warning chimes.

Owners will need to take their SUV to the nearest Mercedes-Benz service center, where a technician will relocate the ground to the proper location. The recall campaign is scheduled to start on December 8, 2020.

Logo a no-go

Mercedes-Benz isn’t the only carmaker that offers a light-up logo as an option, and it’s not the only company that’s had to recall cars due to the feature. On the other side of the pond, Rolls-Royce was recently forced to recall the vehicles it built with an illuminated Spirit of Ecstasy statue because regulators in the European Union decided this feature is illegal. It’s light pollution, according to the EU.

By law, the company is forced to disable the lighting element as quickly as possible. It will give owners of affected cars one of three solutions: they’ll be able to request a refund, order a silver-plated replacement, or choose another item from the list of options. Rolls-Royce charged £3,500 (about $4,600) for the logo, and a handful of cars were built with it.
